Run Club Abuja Holds Press Conference to Announce RCA Women’s Run 2025
Abuja, Nigeria – December 10, 2024 – Yesterday, Run Club Abuja (RCA) held a press conference to announce the upcoming RCA Women’s Run, a 10km run/walk event with a significant initiative aimed at combating period poverty in the Federal Capital Territory.
The event, scheduled for February 22, 2025, commemorates International Women’s Day and underscores the importance of addressing the lack of access to sanitary products, which can severely hinder young girls’ education and overall well-being.
Onyebuchi Ibe, Chairperson of the RCA Women’s Run Organizing Committee, emphasized the dual purpose of the event:
“This run is more than just a race. It’s a platform to raise awareness about period poverty and to empower women through physical activity. By providing free sanitary towels to 500 girls, we aim to break down barriers and ensure that they can focus on their education without unnecessary distractions.”
The event is open to all women, regardless of their fitness level, and encourages participation through running or brisk walking.
Mercy Oluwaseyi Ademakinwa, representing The Tulip BodyCare, a sponsor, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting women’s health and empowerment: “We’re thrilled to be a part of this initiative. It’s a wonderful opportunity to celebrate women and promote self-care.”
Dr. Chito Nwigene of Skin 101 highlighted the importance of addressing period poverty, stating, “By providing sanitary products, we can help young girls maintain good hygiene and boost their self-confidence. This, in turn, will positively impact their academic performance.”
The RCA Women’s Run has garnered support from various sponsors and partners who are significant advocates of issues that affect women, including The Tulip BodyCare, Bubumakaria Perfect Finish Limited, Bolah Girl Initiative, Infosofia Consulting Limited, Four Icons Premium Limited, African Women Power Network, Qualitea, Ardor and Appeal Cleaning Limited, Skin 101, and Mare Clothing.
